Native American Legend
According to the Native American Legend, the Great Spirit gathered the yellow and oranges of the warm Summer Sun, The blues of the water and sky, the greens of the meadows, and the colors of the flowers to make the beautiful butterflies.
When we whisper our wishes to a butterfly, the butterfly cannot reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit who hears and sees all because the butterfly can make no sound. In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom, the Great Spirit always grants the wish. So according to legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom, the wish will rise to the heavens and be granted.
